Diamonds: The Real Deal
'Diamonds' reminds us of the number one single from 1963 by Terrence (Jet) Harris MBE and Tony Meehan, where Jet rather unusually played the lead on a Fender Bass VI. Jet joined Tony in a young Cliff Richardâs backing group, âThe Driftersâ in 1959, who along with Hank Marvin and Bruce Welch later changed their name to âThe Shadowsâ at his suggestion in the same year, so they were the âreal dealâ back then. Or maybe more contemporarily, the word conjures up party animal, Rihannaâs âDiamondsâ world tour.
What has all this got to do with the Diamonds we put into Diamond Engagement Rings?Well, probably very little in fairness other than our tangential reference to the âreal dealâ, however contrived, to link back to real diamonds as opposed to fake ones, which is a very âbig dealâ to us. Why? Because we only sell âCertificated Diamonds' and all is revealed
Watching out for fake diamonds
You will no doubt have heard of the âscratch testâ where you scratch a pane of glass with your diamond. Well â just do not do it!!! Why not? Because other stones will also scratch glass so it will hardly prove to be a definitive and unequivocal test and most importantly of all, you may even cause slight damage your precious Diamond (if it is one)!
What about the so-called âblack light testâ? Well, whilst almost 100% of ânon-diamondsâ will not show up fluorescent blue under a black light, up to two thirds of real diamonds will also not show fluorescent blue under a black light which also renders this test inaccurate in the opinion of us at ComparetheDiamond.com (formerly diamondgeezer.com). With an unmounted diamond if you are able to place it upward facing over print (e. g. a newspaper), ensuring that the stone is perfectly clean, the print should appear blurred as a real diamond will diffuse the light, if however the print is clear, there is a strong likelihood that your diamond may not be genuine. A very simple test may be to breathe on the diamond so that it âfogs upâ a real diamond with its light diffusion should clear immediately whereas a fake may well not do so.

Also, real diamonds should not contain any blemishes or âinclusionsâ.
