9ct Gold Engagement Rings

A 9ct gold engagement ring gives you a handmade setting and real gold for noticeably less than 18ct, leaving more of your budget for the diamond. Every design below is made to order in 9ct white, yellow or rose gold, set with a certified natural or lab grown diamond you choose yourself.

What Is 9ct Gold?

9ct gold is 37.5% pure gold (hallmarked 375), alloyed with silver, copper and other metals. 18ct gold is 75% gold (hallmarked 750). Both are solid gold and both are hallmarked by the UK Assay Office; the difference is how much pure gold is in the mix, which is what drives the price.

9ct or 18ct for an Engagement Ring?

Price: 9ct costs less, often by a good margin on a heavier setting, so you can put the saving towards a bigger or better diamond. Wear: the extra alloy makes 9ct a hard metal that stands up well to everyday wear. Colour: 9ct yellow gold is a softer, paler yellow than 18ct, and 9ct rose gold is a little pinker. Allergies: 9ct has more alloy metals in it, so if you have a known metal allergy choose platinum or ask us about the alloy before you order.

9ct White Gold

All white gold is plated with rhodium to give it its bright white finish. 9ct white gold starts out slightly warmer in colour than 18ct, so as the plating wears over a year or two a hint of warmth can show through. We can re-plate it for you; if you would rather never re-plate, look at platinum engagement rings or read white gold vs platinum.

How It Works

Choose a setting below, then pick your centre stone from our live stock of certified diamonds, natural or lab grown, each with its own photo and grading report. You can switch between 9ct, 18ct and platinum on the ring page at any time. Pictures show the design in gold of the same colour.

Made in Our Own Workshop

Every piece is handmade by our family workshop in the Cotswolds, jewellers since 1969, and hallmarked 375 for 9ct gold. Not sure whether 9ct or 18ct is right for you? Book a virtual meeting or contact us and we will talk it through.

It depends on the design: the heavier the setting, the bigger the saving, because 9ct has half the pure gold of 18ct. Each ring page shows the price in every metal, so you can compare 9ct, 18ct and platinum for the same design.
