Plain Wedding Rings, Made to Order

A plain wedding ring is the one piece of jewellery most people wear every day for the rest of their lives, so the details matter. Use the designer above to build yours: choose the profile, width, weight, metal and finish, see it from every angle in 3D, add an inside engraving and get the price as you go. Every ring is made to order for your finger size and hallmarked, in platinum or 18ct or 9ct gold.

Design your wedding ring

Choosing a Wedding Ring Profile

The profile is the shape of the band when you look at it end on. It changes how the ring looks on the hand and how it feels to wear.

  • Court: rounded on the outside and the inside. The classic comfort-fit wedding ring and the most popular choice, because it slides over the knuckle easily and sits comfortably all day.
  • Soft Court: rounded all the way across with no straight sides, so it looks slimmer and softer than a court ring of the same width.
  • Flat Court: a flat top with a comfort-fit rounded inside. A clean, modern look, with a choice of softly rounded or chamfered edges.
  • D Shape: a rounded top and a flat inside. The traditional British wedding band, showing more metal on top.
  • Flat: flat on top, flat inside and straight-sided, with soft rounded or chamfered edges. Crisp and contemporary.
  • Concave: a gently dished top that catches the light, with a flat inside. Cast for you in our own workshop.

Width and Weight

Ladies' plain wedding rings are offered from 2mm to 6mm wide, and men's from 3mm to 8mm. As a guide, 2mm to 3mm sits neatly next to an engagement ring, 4mm is the most popular all-round width, and 6mm to 8mm makes a bolder band for him.

Each width comes in a light, medium or heavy weight. A heavier band has more depth of metal, so it feels more substantial and wears better over decades. The designer shows the weight of metal and the price for every combination.

Platinum or Gold?

  • Platinum 950 is 95% pure platinum: naturally white, dense and very hard-wearing. It is the best match for a platinum engagement ring, and the weightiest feel on the finger.
  • 18ct gold is 75% pure gold, in white, yellow or rose. Rich colour and a fine finish. White gold is usually rhodium plated for its bright white colour, which can be refreshed over the years.
  • 9ct gold is 37.5% gold, in white, yellow or rose. A harder-wearing, more affordable choice with a softer colour.

A wedding ring worn next to an engagement ring is best made in the same metal, so the two wear evenly. See white gold vs platinum for a side-by-side comparison, and what your hallmark means.

Polished, Brushed or Hammered Finishes

Most plain wedding rings are high polished, but a textured finish gives a band real character. Choose from satin, brushed, hammered, hammered polished, hammered satin, sandblasted and bark. Textured finishes are applied to the top face only; the sides, edges and inside stay polished, so the ring stays comfortable and easy to keep clean.

Men's Plain Wedding Rings

Switch the designer to Gents for men's sizes from Q to Z+7 and widths up to 8mm. A 6mm court or flat court band in platinum or 18ct gold is a timeless choice, while a brushed or hammered finish suits anyone who wants something less shiny. For more styles, see our men's rings.

Engraved Wedding Rings

Add a private message inside the band, up to 24 characters, in a classic Roman or a flowing script font. Dates, initials and short phrases work best. The engraving is shown inside the ring in the 3D view before you order.

Finding Your Ring Size

We make plain wedding rings in UK sizes F to Z+7. If you are not sure of your size, order a free ring sizer or use our ring size converter. Wider bands fit more snugly, so for 6mm and above many people go up a quarter or half size.

Plain Wedding Ring Questions

What is the most popular plain wedding ring?

A court profile wedding ring around 4mm wide is the most popular choice for her, and 5mm to 6mm for him. The rounded inside is comfortable to wear every day.

Is platinum or gold better for a wedding ring?

Platinum 950 is naturally white, heavier and very hard-wearing. 18ct gold has a richer colour and comes in white, yellow and rose. If you already have an engagement ring, choose the same metal so the two rings wear evenly.

What is the difference between a court and a D shape wedding ring?

Both are rounded on top. A court ring is also rounded inside for a comfort fit, while a D shape ring is flat inside, which is the traditional British style.

Can I engrave my wedding ring?

Yes. Add up to 24 characters inside the band, in a Roman or script font. You can preview the engraving in the 3D view before you order.

Are your wedding rings hallmarked?

Yes. Every plain wedding ring is hallmarked to show its precious metal content: 950 for platinum, 750 for 18ct gold and 375 for 9ct gold.

How do I find my wedding ring size?

Order a free ring sizer or use our ring size converter. Wider bands fit more snugly, so for 6mm and above many people go up a quarter or half size.
