The Asscher cut diamond
The Asscher is the square cousin of the emerald cut. Its deep step facets and cut corners draw the eye into the centre of the stone, giving a hypnotic, windmill-like pattern. First cut in 1902, it is the classic Art Deco diamond. With a Asscher diamond, a solitaire shows off the full outline of the stone.
Why a solitaire?
A solitaire is the purest engagement ring: one diamond on a plain band, with nothing to compete with the stone. It never dates, lets more light into the diamond than any other setting, and sits easily beside almost any wedding ring.
Why 18ct rose gold?
18ct rose gold is 75% pure gold, warmed to a soft pink by a little copper in the alloy. It is not plated, so the colour never wears off, and it is slightly harder than yellow gold. Choosing your Asscher diamond
Like the emerald cut, the Asscher shows its clarity, so choose VS2 or better. Look for a ratio between 1.00 and 1.05 for a true square. A G or H colour keeps the step facets crisp and bright.
