What is a solitaire engagement ring?
A solitaire is a ring set with a single diamond. With no side stones or halo, the shape, sparkle and size of the centre diamond do all the talking, and more light reaches the stone than in any other setting. It is the most popular engagement ring style, and it never dates.
Four claws, six claws or a bezel?
Four claws show the most of the diamond and give a square look to a round stone. Six claws hold the stone more securely and keep a round looking round. A bezel setting wraps the diamond in a smooth rim of metal, for a sleek ring with nothing to catch. Pointed shapes such as pear, marquise, heart and princess always have a claw on each point to protect it.
Which diamond shape?
We make solitaires for every shape: round, princess, oval, emerald, cushion, Asscher, marquise, pear, heart and radiant. A round brilliant gives the most sparkle; an oval or pear looks larger for its weight and lengthens the finger; an emerald cut gives clean, elegant lines. Platinum or gold?
Platinum is naturally white, hard-wearing and the most secure choice for the claws that hold your diamond. 18ct white, yellow and rose gold cost a little less, and 9ct gold less again. Shop by metal: platinum, 18ct white gold, 18ct yellow gold or 18ct rose gold.

Made to order in the Cotswolds
Every ring is made to order in our family workshop in Bourton-on-the-Water, where we have made fine jewellery since 1969. We use 100% recycled precious metal, every ring is independently hallmarked, and each one takes 3 to 4 weeks. Delivery is free across the UK, and returns are free within 30 days.

Yes. A plain wedding band sits neatly beside most solitaires, and if the setting sits low, a shaped band fits around it. Our wedding ring designer makes matching plain bands.
There is no rule. With a solitaire, most of the price is the diamond, so pick the setting you love, then use the diamond search to balance size, colour and clarity against your budget. The ring page shows the finished price as you choose.
Every shape works. Round is the classic choice for sparkle; oval, pear and marquise look larger for their weight; emerald and Asscher cuts give a clean, Art Deco look.
