The pear shape diamond
The pear is a brilliant cut shaped like a teardrop. It mixes the sparkle of a round with the length of a marquise, so it looks larger than its weight and lengthens the finger. Most people wear it with the point towards the fingertip. The halo follows the outline of the pear diamond, so the shape reads clearly from across a room.
Why a halo?
A halo frames the centre diamond with a ring of small diamonds. The extra sparkle makes the centre stone look larger, so it is a good way to get a big look for less. Paired with a diamond-set band, it gives the most sparkle of all.
Why platinum?
We use 950 platinum, hallmarked in the UK. It is about 95% pure, so it is naturally white all the way through and never needs re-plating. It is heavier than gold and very hard-wearing: rather than wearing away, the metal moves over time and takes on a soft satin look, which a quick polish brings back to a high shine. It is also the best choice if you have sensitive skin.
Choosing your pear diamond
A ratio between 1.45 and 1.75 gives the classic teardrop. Look for even, rounded shoulders and a bow tie that is faint rather than dark. The point is protected by a claw on all our pear settings.
