The marquise is a long, boat-shaped diamond with two points. It looks larger than any other shape of the same weight. A bridal set pairs your engagement ring with wedding bands made to fit around it, so the rings sit flush together.
The marquise cut diamond
The marquise is a long brilliant cut with a point at each end. It has the largest face-up area of any diamond shape for its weight, so it looks big for its carat weight and makes the finger look long and slender. It has a bold, vintage character. The bands are shaped around the marquise centre stone so they sit flush against it.
Why a bridal set?
A bridal set is an engagement ring and wedding band made as a matching pair, so there are no gaps and no rubbing between them. Most of our sets use a jacket: two diamond-set bands that wrap around the engagement ring and frame the centre stone. Wear the engagement ring on its own until the wedding, then add the jacket on the day.
Why platinum?
We use 950 platinum, hallmarked in the UK. It is about 95% pure, so it is naturally white all the way through and never needs re-plating. It is heavier than gold and very hard-wearing: rather than wearing away, the metal moves over time and takes on a soft satin look, which a quick polish brings back to a high shine. It is also the best choice if you have sensitive skin.
Choosing your marquise diamond
A ratio of 1.75 to 2.25 gives the classic shape; keep the two halves even. Like the oval, a marquise can show a bow tie, so check the photos. The two points are the delicate part, and our settings protect each one with a claw.
