Platinum Asscher Cut Engagement Rings

Platinum Asscher cut engagement rings, handmade to order by our family workshop in the Cotswolds and set with a diamond you choose yourself. The Asscher cut is a square step-cut diamond with cut corners, much loved in the Art Deco era. Platinum is naturally white, so it never needs re-plating, and it is dense and hard-wearing, which keeps claws and small diamonds secure for decades.

The Asscher cut diamond

The Asscher is the square cousin of the emerald cut. Its deep step facets and cut corners draw the eye into the centre of the stone, giving a hypnotic, windmill-like pattern. First cut in 1902, it is the classic Art Deco diamond.

Why platinum?

We use 950 platinum, hallmarked in the UK. It is about 95% pure, so it is naturally white all the way through and never needs re-plating. It is heavier than gold and very hard-wearing: rather than wearing away, the metal moves over time and takes on a soft satin look, which a quick polish brings back to a high shine. It is also the best choice if you have sensitive skin.

Choosing your Asscher diamond

Like the emerald cut, the Asscher shows its clarity, so choose VS2 or better. Look for a ratio between 1.00 and 1.05 for a true square. A G or H colour keeps the step facets crisp and bright.

Choose your own diamond

Every ring is set with a centre diamond you choose yourself, natural or lab-grown, from our live stock. Each stone has its grading report, and the ring page shows the finished price before you buy.

Made to order in the Cotswolds

Every ring is made to order in our family workshop in Bourton-on-the-Water, where we have made fine jewellery since 1969. We use 100% recycled precious metal, every ring is independently hallmarked, and each one takes 3 to 4 weeks. Delivery is free across the UK, and returns are free within 30 days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both are step cuts with cut corners. The Asscher is square, with deeper facets that draw the eye to the centre; the emerald cut is longer, with a calmer, more open look.

All precious metals mark with wear. Platinum moves rather than wearing away, so it keeps its weight and holds the diamond securely. Over time it takes on a soft satin finish, and we can polish it back to a bright shine whenever you like.
