18ct white gold Asscher cut bezel-set engagement rings, handmade to order by our family workshop in the Cotswolds and set with a diamond you choose yourself. The Asscher cut is a square step-cut diamond with cut corners, much loved in the Art Deco era. A bezel setting holds the diamond in a smooth rim of metal instead of claws, for a sleek, secure ring.
The Asscher cut diamond
The Asscher is the square cousin of the emerald cut. Its deep step facets and cut corners draw the eye into the centre of the stone, giving a hypnotic, windmill-like pattern. First cut in 1902, it is the classic Art Deco diamond. The bezel traces the outline of the Asscher diamond in a clean line of metal.
Why a bezel setting?
A bezel wraps a smooth rim of metal right round the diamond instead of holding it with claws. It protects the edge of the stone, sits low on the finger and has nothing to catch on clothes or hair, so it suits an active life and everyday wear.
Why 18ct white gold?
18ct white gold is 75% pure gold, alloyed with white metals and finished with rhodium plating for a bright, mirror-white shine. It costs less than platinum and is lighter on the finger. As the plating wears, usually over a year or two, a hint of warmth can show; a quick re-plate brings it back. Want to spend less again? See our 9ct white gold engagement rings.
Choosing your Asscher diamond
Like the emerald cut, the Asscher shows its clarity, so choose VS2 or better. Look for a ratio between 1.00 and 1.05 for a true square. A G or H colour keeps the step facets crisp and bright.
Choose your own diamond
Every ring is set with a centre diamond you choose yourself, natural or lab-grown, from our live stock. Each stone has its grading report, and the ring page shows the finished price before you buy.
From our workshop to your door
Each ring is made for you in our Cotswolds workshop in 3 to 4 weeks, in 100% recycled metal, and independently hallmarked. We have made fine jewellery since 1969. UK delivery is free, every order comes with a prepaid returns pack, and returns are free within 30 days.
Frequently Asked Questions
Both are step cuts with cut corners. The Asscher is square, with deeper facets that draw the eye to the centre; the emerald cut is longer, with a calmer, more open look.
The metal rim covers the very edge of the stone, so it can look a touch smaller than in claws. In return the diamond is fully protected, and the clean frame gives a crisp, modern outline.
Usually every year or two, depending on how hard the ring is worn. Re-plating with rhodium takes a short visit to a jeweller and brings back the bright white finish.
Yes. Every ring can be set with a natural or lab-grown diamond from our live stock. Both are real diamonds; lab-grown stones cost less for the same size and grade.
